Swiss cottage hoardings
For the Essential Living Swiss Cottage Hoarding Project, we collaborated with 6 local young people’s groups through a series of 24 creative workshops. Each group responded to a different simple brief creating innovative artworks that would feed directly into the final design of the hoardings. The title of the project: ‘We’re Growing… Where Are We Going?” focused on each young person’s journey, championing their possibilities and potential as well as showcasing their creativity. As much as the physical environment, the future of Swiss Cottage is its young people, nurturing their potential and the future they wish to build.
At Quintin Kynaston, the 4 practical workshops initially looked at building literally, using building blocks to create an alphabet font to be used across the hoarding designs. We then developed this further to create a poem inspired by the title, and designed these words to travel across a series of t-shirts.
The images show the QK design process and how this work feeds directly into the final hoarding designs. We’ve also included other sections of the hoardings, as well as Holy Trinity Primary’s Future Orchard celebrating the careers the young people want to grow. The final design covers 130m stretch, directly outside Swiss Cottage Tube Station.
